There are many Tel Aviv restaurants but only one Shila. It’s my family favorite for special occasions and a ‘pop in’ for a drink and a munch at the bar for hubbie and I when he wants to spoil me! This was one such lunchtime. Hubbie fed up peering at me from across the kitchen suggested that he hang up his apron and treat me to a midday nosh. Such a sweet man so who am I to disagree?
Shila is an eatery in a very central Tel Aviv location which is well known by the local community and that we often recommend to visiting friends and acquaintances, knowing that all will enjoy. Having years of experience eating the food in this establishment (I can virtually recite the menu ) I can honestly say that the consistancy, quality and imagination of the cuisine has ensured that this restaurant has flourished , unlike others which lifespans are short. It has become a landmark kitchen that we can rely on. We like the owner and chief too. Sharon Cohen is a hard working unassuming and talented individual who has dedicated a lot of time and effort to get to this standard and maintain it.
The restaurant itself is kitted out with a large square shaped well stocked wooden bar with matching bar stools with a view to the prep kitchen area. It boasts elegant inside seating including a private side room which is sweet for a party of people, beamed ceilings and suede washed walls. There is outside seating both at the front of the restaurant and to one side. This is less formal but equally pleasing ( designated areas for smokers too) The general atmosphere is “sophisticated casual” and relaxed with the clientele chatty and looking somewhat animated over the candle lit tables. Service is efficient and pleasant, especially the bar staff.
The food is delicious. Scrumptious seafood combinations, sizzling hotplates of fish or meats, salads of super imagination, risotto to challenge Italy and crusty focaccia to plunge into dips (that will forever be the appetizer to my meal) and delectable desserts to diet for !
Shila provides a valet parking service should you so wish to drive. However since the wines and cocktails are enticing in my opinion, you may be better to hail a cab.. This is fine dining so make sure your wallet is full!
